CIMB denies the link between Zoom and the problem of “direct debit” | Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 – CIMB released a statement denying any suspicious activity on its platforms after a viral message from WhatsApp claims Zoom, a video conferencing app, is behind the recent ‘direct debit‘ issue that affected customers.
They also want to reassure customers that there has been no âuntoward or suspicious activityâ on any of their platforms.
âThe security of our customers’ funds and online banking transactions is a strict priority at all times to ensure that all banking transactions remain safe for customers,â CIMB said in its press release.
CIMB claimed that “direct debit” transactions, which have been reviewed by the Malaysia Cyber ââConsumer Association (MCCA), are legitimate purchases made by customers for online services.
There would have been tweets from users who contacted CIMB online after receiving a WhatsApp message claiming that Zoom is one of the apps hackers use to steal personal information like passwords and access banking information.
The post also urged users to uninstall Zoom.
Zoom has had issue after issue, with reports of multiple privacy and security issues. Cybercriminals are reported to have created fake “Zoom” apps and websites to trick users into downloading malware onto their devices.
Zoom has denied that its app is the cause of the “direct debit” problem some CIMB customers face.
“Zoom would like to maintain that the app has no connection with the allegations that a malware attack could have triggered a direct debit and the matter has also been clarified by the bank,” they said. .
