Residents of Bedford Borough can receive their council tax of £150 faster if they register to pay by direct debit before April 1.
The government rebate is part of an initiative to help households cope with rising energy costs and is available to anyone living in council tax bands A to D (as a residence main).
Anyone registered to pay their residence tax by direct debit will receive this payment automatically in April 2022.
You can sign up to pay by direct debit via the Council’s website.
Those who do not pay by direct debit will have to complete an online form to provide the Council with their bank details and allow this payment.
To be alerted when this form is available on the Council’s website, please email [email protected]
Cllr Michael Headley, portfolio holder for finance, said: “We are really keen to get this funding out to people as quickly as possible.
“Paying council tax by direct debit is the easiest and most convenient way to pay, and means we can make this payment to you automatically. Go to bedford.gov.uk/CouncilTax and register you before April 1, 2022.”

If you are not eligible for this program, additional funding will also be available for households that are not eligible. Details will follow on the Council’s website.
