Digital bank TymeBank has launched its first credit card as part of a growing campaign to attract more middle-income customers.

The Visa credit card is offered in partnership with RCS and is part of the bank’s intention to diversify its customer profile, TymeBank chief executive Tauriq Keraan said.

“The card has been in the works for some time, but we thought long and hard about the timing, especially given the challenging consumer environment. That said, a credit card is a secure and convenient form of payment that can add value to your budget and your lifestyle, provided it is used responsibly,” he said.

Keraan said TymeBank will ensure cardholders have all the information they need to get the most out of their credit card while managing their debt.

How to qualify

To qualify for a TymeBank credit card, applicants must be aged 18 or over, employed and earning R3,000 or more per month.

They must also have a valid South African identity card or driver’s license as well as a South African bank account. TymeBank said the tap-and-go credit card can be used to make online and point-of-sale purchases, both locally and internationally, at more than 29 million merchants worldwide.

Cardholders earn Pick n Pay Smart Shopper points wherever they use their TymeBank credit card (in-store or online) and the points are automatically loaded into their Smart Shopper profile.

Using the card at Pick n Pay stores will allow cardholders to double their Smart Shopper earnings. Customers who successfully register before April 30, 2022 will benefit from an exclusive introductory offer, which will allow them to earn up to four times more Smart Shopper points during this period when they swipe and pay on Pick n Pay .

• Free SMS notifications for added security
• Free delivery of the first card by courier
• Cardholders can get up to three additional cards for family members
• Up to 55 days of interest-free credit if the total amount due is paid on time each month.
